The Ford Fusion

Midsize Triplets – The Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan are nearly identical midsize models sold by Ford, popular sedans first introduced in 2005. An upscale platform mate, the Lincoln MKZ, shares many of the same components with its siblings, but that car is geared to a much more limited market. Clearly, the Fusion and Milan are the bread and butter cars for Ford. In Spring 2009, the next generation Fusion and Milan will be released, new models which will include hybrid gas-electric cars in the mix, vehicles which will deliver an astounding 41 mpg in city fuel economy.

New Full Size Models – The Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable are finally receiving the overhaul needed to make these now full sized models that cars that Ford needs to burnish each brand’s image. Though Ford hasn’t released a pre-production mock up version just yet, the information about these two cars being shared suggest that both models will play an important part in bringing customers in. First introduced in 1986, the Taurus has had its ups and downs throughout the years, with the all new 2010 model expected to be the biggest “upper” in quite some time.

Adavntages of IPTV

IPTV is a truly interactive service and can provide numerous services like e-commerce, e-governance, e-education, e-medicine, weather and infotainment etc,. IPTV is still in nascent phase in India. Considering the current scenario, IPTV can be said to have both pros and cons.

Interactive Nature
One of the best advantages of IPTV is that it uses internet protocol to provide two way communication, making the television viewing experience truly interactive. Through this technology, viewers not only receive data but can also send data back. For example, e-mailing, instant messaging, ticket booking, e-shopping and participation in live votes are all possible through IPTV.

Triple Play service
IPTV provides triple play service, which allows TV broadcasting, high-speed internet connection and telephony on one platform.

TV viewing at convenience
On-demand content
On demand advertising
Internet penetration

Technology of the Future

IPTV is a technology of the future and is gradually taking off India. We firmly believe that IPTV and other value added services will spur penetration of broadband in India. The IPTV forum has set a target of acquiring one million subscribers by 2012. The compelling factors, which will attract consumers will be IPTV’s interactive features and value added services.

Delivering entertainment content over broadband networks will empower users to view their content at times pre-set by them. IPTV will also serve as a stimulator for the growth of broadband in the country as it will generate the demand for increased broadband capacity and networks.

Bright Potential

Technologies are challenging rapidly and so are the innovators of content for these technologies, but what is agonising is that our policy framework is too slow to cope with the change needs. Customers are more than willing to select any service that entertains them and gives them value for their money. Whether one is withdrawing money from an ATM machine, purchasing a ticket through the internet, paying utility bills online.

Digital Forensics – How Hackers hide Data in Computers

Basics of Digital Forensics

The rate of cyber crime is increasing in our country. A latest survey reveals that over Rs 3500 million is lost annually due to white collar crime, which includes cyber crime. When law enforcement agencies investigate cyber crimes, they use digital forensics, which involves investigation of computer systems to unearth evidence against cyber criminals. Many new investigative methods that use the latest scientific developments and new software are becoming popular in this field. When cyber crime occur, they naturally involve the computer and hackers, who usually leave some evidence or tracks on the system.

Popular Techniques to Hide Data

Generally cyber criminals conceal data on the hard drive. There are two popular techniques to hide data on the hard drive, one by low-level formatting and the other by partitioning. With low-level formatting hackers prefer redundant sectors and bad sectors. While partitioning data can be hidden in the inner-partition gaps, unallocated spaces, hidden partitions, boot records, partition tables and deleted partitions. To fully understand this we should know the details of the Windows file system or other popular file system.

Software for Forensics

Investigators need software tools for file viewing, disk imaging, uncompressing files, identifying known files, performing string searches and accessing file metadata. WinHex software (www.x-ways.net) is used for making hard disk images, viewing files and recovering deleted files. ProDiscover (www.techpathways.com) is a forensic software which is used for disk imaging and file signature analysis to recover deleted files. This software is suitable for analysis of FAT, NTFS and Sun Solaris UFS. It also displays ADS streams in the file system. Encase is another popular tool used in the forensic field. This software safely previews a virtual boot disk image using VMW are to allow a first hand view of the system.

You can use SafeBack, Ghost, Mareware, FTK softwares for disk imaging. Process explorer, Auto Runs, WireShark, MD5Sum, EventCombMT are other free software tools for digital forensic purposes. These software tools will help you in protecting your system and empower you to watch out for hackers data on your computer.

CAM’s : Memories Faster then RAM’s

Content Addressable Memorys (CAM’s) in their most trivial form, work in a way opposite to conventional memories. While a random access memory (RAM) returns data upon providing the address, a CAM provides address when data is supplied. So effectively a CAM is a search tool that looks for the data in question within its data base.

CAM’s commonly work as hardware search engines in routers and switches to accelerate forwarding of packets on the destination route. We will talk about the various other applications that consider a CAM as an important processing engine as we proceed engine as we proceed in this article.

As indicated in its definition, CAM holds the address to be looked up for and returns the route associated information to the host processor to perform the successive tasks of forwarding the incoming packet. So we can also define a CAM as a network coprocessor to the central processor.

Note that TCP/IP and /or OSI models are taken here as reference to explain the concepts similar analogies may be drawn with other protocols like IPX/SPX, Apple Talk and UDP.

Functionality of CAM’s

In order to get a true understanding of the functionality of CAM’s, you need to dig a little deeper into the domain in which these work. If you look at either the OSI reference model or the TCP/IP stack, you will find that the lower three layers are the ones that are concerned with the packet delivery to its peer, while all the other layers are more concerned with the content, its presentation and formatting.

The physical layer adopts analogue means of data transfer and is not concerned with acknowledgement of the transmitted data. This leaves the next two layers to make sure that the transmitted packet was indeed received in its original form – that is the order of information, encryption used for data protection, etc

Another important task that needs to be performed by these upper layers is to ensure delivery of the packet to its correct recipient. This is done in two ways.

1. Using MAC (media access control) address. This addressing scheme is adopted at layer 2 of the OSI layer. It is used in such network device as switches/bridges.

2. Using IP addresses. This addressing scheme is used to transmit any IP packet and communicate with its peer on the network, which is the data link layer on the destination. It is used in such network devices as routers and layer 3 switches.

According to your requirements, buy a laptop

It’s easy just going into a shop and coming out with a laptop. But it shouldn’t work like that. First, you must match the machine with your prime needs. If document editing, email and browsing is all you need, a basic, entry level laptop (13.3-15 inch) will do. Even a 10-inch netbook may be enough. Handling graphics, images or video regularly? Or heavy on gaming? Get a high-end machine with a graphics processor.
Know your budget
Choose a processor, memory, hard disk, screen-size and weight according to your requirements and then balance them to fit your budget best. A base configuration today should comprise: 2.0-GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD, 13.3-inch screen, 3.5 hours battery life, multiple USB 2.0 ports, WiFi, and Bluetooth. No matter what you buy, advancing technology will ensure that it will be outdated in a couple of years.
Google for a review
Computers are unreliable, but humans are even more unreliable. Don’t leave it to the dealer to choose for you. He may have vested interests. And don’t fall for a laptop just because it looks snazzy — unless you only want some “lap candy”! Always physically check out a recommended model — or whatever takes your fancy — then deploy Google to find reviews to ascertain the good, the bad, and the ugly about it before forking out your cash.
Battery life
The attention span of a computer is only as long as its electrical cord. If long battery life doesn’t seem very important to you, remember the prime reason you’re buying a portable computer is to have the convenience of being able to work/play untethered to your desk. And many a time, you will not be near a power source. Hence, a long battery life is very convenient, if not vital. Try and buy a laptop with a 6 or 8 cell battery. Look for something that gives you at least 3.5 to 4 hours of battery life at least. To keep the battery in shipshape, use the laptop on battery at least twice a week, if not more often.
Variations can be huge
Never blindly follow the herd. Or hearsay. Just as car models from the same manufacturer differ in build, quality and performance, laptops and notebooks from one company can vary hugely. Just because your pal’s two-year Toshiba laptop is still a smoothie, doesn’t necessarily mean every Toshiba will be a scorcher.
Extended warranty
Murphy’s law says: if anything can go wrong, it will. This couldn’t be more true for laptops in which any component — from the relatively inexpensive adapter to the very expensive screen — can go bust anytime. It always makes money sense to buy an extended warranty with your laptop. This stretches the warranty of your laptop one to two years beyond the mandatory first year. An extra Rs. 5,000 to 8,000 initially will give you peace of mind and wallet for the next two to three years.

Motorola introduced its first smartphone based on Google’s Android software

San Francisco: Motorola introduced its first smartphone based on Google’s Android software on Thursday, in a move that’s key to the company’s goal of regaining its place among the world’s top cellphone manufacturers.
The device, dubbed the Cliq, will first be made available later this year in the US through T-Mobile. The touch-screen phone will run a new service from Motorola called MotoBlur, which synchronises all user messages and contacts, Motorola chief executive Sanjay Jha said at the Mobilize conference in San Francisco.
“MotoBlur makes text, e-mail, Facebook, Twitter feeds and photos from sources like MySpace, Gmail, Yahoo and corporate e-mail appear in a single stream and sync them together with no different logins,” Jha said.
“This means you can focus on what people have said instead of how and where they said it.”
The Cliq will feature a full, slide-out keyboard, a 5-megapixel camera and access to all the Google programmes and applications available for the company’s Android platform.
The phone will be called the Dext in markets outside the US and will launch in France, Britain and Latin America later in the year, Jha said. No pricing was available for the device.
Analysts said the integration of social networking into phones could give Motorola and other manufacturers a foot in the door in their battle to challenge the iPhone as the world’s dominant smartphone.
Motorola has been especially hard hit by the move to smartphones, selling just 18.8 million handsets in the most recent quarter, down from 28.1 million a year ago. Earlier this decade, the company’s Razr was the world’s most popular cellphone.

Digital potentiometers – advantages

Digital potentiometers have many significant advantages over mechanical potentiometers. Digital potentiometers are far more reliable than mechanical potentiometers. Digital pots can easily guarantee 50,000 writing cycles, while the mechanical parts rate only a few thousand, and sometimes only a few hundred. Digital pots are insensitive to dust, dirt, and moisture, which can kill a mechanical part if they intrude. They use less space and have better electrical performance because of the reduced parasitics and lower susceptibility to noise. Digital pots can replace mechanical types in virtually every application, thus allowing the designer and the eventual user to enjoy the associated benefits.

Basic Digital Concepts

By converting continuous analog signals into a nite number of discrete states, a process
called digitization, then to the extent that the states are suciently well separated so that
noise does create errors, the resulting digital signals allow the following (slightly idealized):
storage over arbitrary periods of time
flawless retrieval and reproduction of the stored information
 flawless transmission of the information
Some information is intrinsically digital, so it is natural to process and manipulate it
using purely digital techniques. Examples are numbers and words.
The drawback to digitization is that a single analog signal (e.g. a voltage which is a
function of time, like a stereo signal) needs many discrete states, or bits, in order to give
a satisfactory reproduction. For example, it requires a minimum of 10 bits to determine a
voltage at any given time to an accuracy of 0:1%. For transmission, one now requires 10
lines instead of the one original analog line.
The explosion in digital techniques and technology has been made possible by the incred-
ible increase in the density of digital circuitry, its robust performance, its relatively low cost,
and its speed. The requirement of using many bits in reproduction is no longer an issue:
The more the better.
This circuitry is based upon the transistor, which can be operated as a switch with
two states. Hence, the digital information is intrinsically binary. So in practice, the terms
digital and binary are used interchangeably. In the following sections we summarize some
conventions for de ning the binary states and for doing binary arithmetic.
